Foundation
Fondazione I Solisti di Pavia as an instrumental body of Fondazione Banca del Monte di Lombardia, has been promoting the chamber orchestra I Solisti di Pavia since 2001, when, under the Honorary Chairmanship of Maestro Mstislav Rostropovich, it took its first steps at Pavia’s Teatro Fraschini. From then on, years of growing success led the Orchestra to meet with significant appreciation both in Italy and in Europe, until, in December 2011, Fondazione Banca del Monte di Lombardia wished to recognise the Orchestra as an autonomous body of its own, with the aim of both enhancing musical culture as an educational tool and an opportunity for growth, and of promoting, in Italy and abroad, knowledge of the town of Pavia and its artistic and cultural initiatives. In partnership with other organisations and institutions, various occasions to promote the Pavia area are accompanied by the Orchestra’s concerts in various countries around the world.
As a significant institution in the national scene, Fondazione I Solisti di Pavia stands as a point of reference for development of musical culture, through innovative forms of organization. This enables the achievement of high-level goals and places the ensemble among the most representative ensembles of Italian instrumental music in the world.
The purpose of Foundation I Solisti di Pavia is also to plan, organise and manage the musical production and concert season of the ensemble I Solisti di Pavia, as well as the activities of the ‘Pavia Cello Academy’ – the first cello academy to be established in Italy, whose Artistic Director is Enrico Dindo – an entity for the promotion and musical training of artists and cello lovers, which promotes, among other things, musical didactics in schools and various training activities for students.
With their eclectic proposals, I Solisti di Pavia and Enrico Dindo create a kind of dialectical relationship with the audience by often proposing pieces by young contemporary and unknown composers, to whom I Solisti give voice. In this way they promote, in effect, a music education aimed particularly at the youngest. In Pavia, music school students are involved, as soloists and in ensembles, in I Cortili in Musica concert series, which constitutes the traditional spring chamber music event in the town.
